  This California term for "a strong, hot, dust-bearing wind blowing towards the southern Pacific coast from the desert" comes from Mexican Spanish for (according to MWCD10) the Santa Ana mountain range or (according to AHD3) the Santa Ana Canyon, not from the California city of Santa Ana.
